If you have read ‘The Disclaimer’ we can move on to a brief statement about the laws of the universe and why they don’t quite apply at my address.

“There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy” These are the words of Shakespeare and they must be true because Patrick Stewart recites them all the time. Or put more clearly. Not only is the world stranger than we imagine, its stranger than we can imagine. This statement applies to my home as well. It is a place where some of the rules of time and space go a little wonky. It is a place where other realities which have no business existing in our universe sort of overlap and bleed into each other.

How can this be? Good question. I frankly have no idea. The reason might be a phase mis-alignment at the quantum level or it might be because some dark and sinister god thinks its fun to mess with me. The how is impossible to know. So when I tell you that my home, the land around it and to some extent the nearby town is enchanted and/or slightly magical, you just nod your head and smile. Just like that, good.

If you are the argumentative type you might scoff at what I’ve just said. “Why would this place, of all places, be more magical than say…Stonehenge?” I hear you ask. And that’s another jolly good question that I don’t have an answer to. Both the How and the Why are, for the moment, unknowable. But you can take my word for it. How do I know? Because I’ve been there.

I have stood inside the upright saracens of Stonehenge at dawn. I have climbed into the Pharaohs chamber in the Great Pyramid of Cheops. I have watched sunlight enter the inner temple of Karnack. I’ve trod the floor of St Peters Basilica as well as the Blue Mosque in Istanbul. I have explored the valley of the Temples in ancient Rome. Don't believe me? I have pictures and receipts to back me up. There are other Holy or Magical sites in the world but I think that’s a pretty good sampling don’t you? And guess what? The magic’s gone.

I’m not trying to pee in anybody’s Fruit Loops here. I’m just stating my opinion. I have no doubt that the magic was there at one time. Why else would men have toiled to create these great and beautiful monuments? These were places of power, places of mystery, and places of wonder. But now they are over run by tens of thousands of tourists complaining about the heat, the food and the pushy souvenir sellers. You know how you feel after you’ve had a few friends over for the weekend? Now magnify that a thousand times. These places have simply worn out. The magic has gone somewhere else. And why not? Every force in the universe can be altered in some way. Water, earth, wind even electricity. Even light and gravity can be bent. And magic is such a subtle thing, like a wisp of smoke. It gets blown away and settles somewhere else. Somewhere in Ohio. Odd Things happen here.
